RMWilliams Boots Land in Edinburgh, Marking a New Chapter for Australian Craftsmanship
Australian heritage bootmaker RMWilliams has expanded its UK presence with the opening of its inaugural Scottish store in Edinburgh. This launch represents a key step in the brand’s ongoing UK strategy, and is notably the first store opening planned for 2026.
Located on George Street, a prominent and prestigious retail destination in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre, the new store introduces nearly a century of Australian bootmaking tradition to Scottish consumers. The location was deliberately chosen, reflecting the brand’s alignment with the enduring qualities of the surrounding architecture – endurance, precision, and longevity – values deeply embedded within RMWilliams’ own ethos.
The store’s design, expertly handled by Melbourne-based studio ACRD, prioritises a balance of understated elegance, meticulous craftsmanship, and timeless aesthetics. The interior focuses on showcasing quality and incorporates subtle nods to both Australian and Scottish manufacturing heritage, creating a cohesive and respectful design language.
Beyond retail, the Edinburgh location is conceived as a dedicated “craft space,” offering customers a comprehensive experience. This includes professional boot fitting services, expert repair and restoration options, complimentary boot polishing, and personalization through embossing or debossing. The store aims to provide insight into the RMWilliams manufacturing process, emphasizing materials, construction techniques, and finishing details.
Karl Wederell, General Manager of UK & Europe for RMWilliams, emphasized the strategic importance of the Edinburgh opening, stating that the brand has enjoyed significant support from Scottish customers for many years. He believes establishing a physical presence in Edinburgh is a natural progression and a fitting tribute to their loyal customer base.
