Swinger International Acquires Philippe Model Paris in Luxury Fashion Expansion
Swinger International, an Italian fashion group, is rapidly expanding its portfolio with the recent acquisition of Philippe Model Paris. The deal, finalized for an undisclosed sum, sees Swinger International taking control of the sneaker and apparel brand from 21 Invest, a private equity fund established by Alessandro Benetton in 1992. This acquisition adds another significant brand to Swinger International’s holdings, which already include Genny and the production license for Just Cavalli, alongside a newly secured minority stake in Etro through a joint investment with Rams Global and SRI Group.
The transaction marks a change in ownership for Philippe Model Paris, which was initially acquired by 21 Invest (then known as 21 Investimenti) in July 2016. Swinger International, under the leadership of Mathias Facchini, is now poised to steer the brand’s future direction. The move underscores Swinger International’s aggressive growth strategy within the luxury fashion sector.
Philippe Model, the founder of the brand, originally established his label in Paris in 1978. He first gained recognition in the 1980s with the creation of ‘Elastique,’ a revolutionary comfortable heeled shoe featuring elastic straps. Model’s career was characterized by collaborations with prominent Parisian fashion houses, including Christian Dior, Claude Montana, Lanvin, and Jean-Paul Gaultier, solidifying his reputation as an innovative designer.
Over time, Philippe Model’s creative scope broadened beyond haute couture accessories to encompass interior design projects. In 2008, the brand underwent a relaunch, refocusing on the production of high-end sneakers for both men and women. All of Philippe Model’s footwear is manufactured in the renowned Riviera del Brenta footwear district in Italy, a region celebrated for its craftsmanship and quality. Current estimates place the brand’s 2024 turnover at approximately €30 million.
