ThredUp Sales Surge 34 Percent Driven by Customer and Order Growth

ThredUp, a leading U.S. resale platform, has reported a substantial increase in its third-quarter sales, with revenue surging 34 percent to $82.2 million. The company attributes this significant growth to a robust expansion in its customer base and a corresponding rise in order volumes during the period.

For the third quarter, which concluded in September, the Oakland, California-based firm saw its active buyer numbers escalate by 26 percent, reaching 1.57 million. Concurrently, orders experienced an even more dramatic increase, skyrocketing 37 percent to a total of 1.61 million. Despite the strong revenue performance, net income for the quarter saw a slight decline, falling to $583,000 compared to $739,000 in the prior-year period.

James Reinhart, CEO and co-founder of ThredUp, expressed immense satisfaction with the results, stating, "In Q3, we are proud to have delivered our fourth consecutive quarter of accelerating revenue growth, driven by exceptional new buyer acquisition and order growth." He highlighted the company's recent strategic initiatives as key contributors to this success.

Reinhart further elaborated on the company's advancements, noting, "This quarter, we launched a fully rebranded ThredUp experience, with new products and features that create a more personalized and engaging way to buy and sell secondhand. These advancements are enabled by years of investment in our data and technology infrastructure, positioning us to innovate faster and strengthen our competitive moat in the growing resale market." This indicates a strong focus on leveraging technology to enhance user experience and market positioning.

Looking ahead, ThredUp has provided an optimistic full-year revenue forecast, expecting it to be in the range of $307 million to $309 million. This projection represents an 18 percent year-over-year increase at the midpoint, signaling continued confidence in its growth trajectory.

Earlier in September of this year, ThredUp officially unveiled its comprehensive rebrand. This strategic move was specifically designed to solidify and strengthen its leadership position within the increasingly mainstream secondhand market, reflecting the company's ambition to remain at the forefront of the circular fashion economy.
