Tory Burch UK sees sales climb but profits dip amid rising costs

Tory Burch (UK) Limited has released its latest financial accounts, revealing a period of mixed performance for the subsidiary encompassing its UK and German operations. For the 53-week period ending January 4th, the American luxury label saw an increase in sales, although several key profit metrics experienced a decline.

Sales for the subsidiary climbed by 4.97% to reach £29.86 million, up from £28.44 million in the previous 12-month period. This growth, while positive, marked a slowdown compared to the robust 16% increase recorded a year prior. However, the cost of sales also rose significantly, reaching nearly £12.9 million, compared to £9.4 million in the previous fiscal year.

This rise in the cost of sales impacted the company's gross profit, which fell to £16.96 million from £19 million. Despite this, operating profit showed a positive trajectory, increasing to £3.75 million from £2.5 million. Profit before tax also saw an improvement, rising to £4.38 million from £2.8 million. Nevertheless, a higher tax burden and negative fluctuations in currency rates ultimately led to a decrease in net profit for the period, which stood at £3.08 million, down from £3.3 million in the preceding year.

The company's enhanced turnover was attributed to strong performance across its e-commerce platforms, coupled with increased sales in its physical retail stores. Tory Burch currently operates three standalone retail locations in the UK and two in Germany. However, the gross margin saw a notable drop from 66.9% to 56.8%. This reduction was primarily a consequence of pricing adjustments made to the group’s past inventory purchases, in line with the current Tory Burch global transfer pricing policy.
