TPG explores $2 billion exit for APM Monaco through potential sale or IPO.

Private equity firm TPG Inc. is currently considering strategic options for its investment in APM Monaco, including a possible stake sale or an initial public offering (IPO) for the jewelry company. According to individuals familiar with the matter, TPG is working with an adviser and may initiate a dual-track process, which allows for simultaneous pursuit of both a sale and an IPO, as early as the beginning of next year.

The US investment firm is reportedly targeting a valuation of at least $2 billion for APM Monaco as part of a potential transaction. However, these discussions are preliminary, and sources indicate that TPG may ultimately decide to retain the asset for a longer period. A representative for TPG declined to comment on the matter.

This is not the first time TPG has explored an exit strategy for APM Monaco. In 2019, a TPG-led consortium acquired a 30% stake in the jewelry brand. Other members of this investment group included European private equity firm Trail and China Synergy, an investment firm supported by TPG and China International Capital Corp. Following this initial investment, documents were submitted for a potential Hong Kong IPO in 2021, but the offering never materialized. The following year, the group reportedly began sounding out potential interest in its stake, although TPG stated at that time that it had no plans to sell.

TPG's investment in APM Monaco was made through its Asia-focused private equity platform. The US buyout firm manages substantial assets, with $286 billion in assets under management as of the end of September. APM Monaco operates a significant global retail network, with approximately 500 jewelry stores worldwide, according to information available on its website.
