Versace Creative Director Dario Vitale Departs Amidst Prada Acquisition
Versace is once again undergoing a significant creative shift with the announcement that Dario Vitale will step down from his role as creative director. Vitale's departure, which comes roughly eight months after he first joined the iconic Italian label, is by mutual agreement and is set to take effect on December 12. This marks another notable change in leadership for the luxury fashion house as it navigates a period of strategic evolution.
In the immediate aftermath of Vitale's departure, Versace has confirmed that its internal design team will continue to operate under the guidance of Emmanuel Gintzburger, the Chief Executive Officer of Versace. The company also stated that an announcement regarding new creative leadership will be made in due course. Expressing gratitude for his contributions, Versace issued a statement thanking Dario Vitale for his "outstanding contribution to the development of the brand's creative strategy during this transitional period" and extended best wishes for his future endeavors.
During his relatively brief tenure at Versace, Dario Vitale conceived and presented a singular runway show for the maison. This collection debuted during the most recent Milan women's fashion week in September, offering a glimpse into his vision for the brand. Prior to joining Versace in April, where he succeeded the legendary Donatella Versace, Vitale had established a notable career at Miu Miu. He was widely recognized as Miuccia Prada's right-hand man, having spent years working within the design studio of the Prada Group brand and playing a key role in its success after succeeding Fabio Zambernardi.
Vitale's exit also coincides with a monumental shift in Versace's corporate structure. In recent days, Prada Group confirmed the completion of its €1.25 billion acquisition of Versace from Capri Holdings, having successfully obtained all necessary regulatory approvals. This significant change of ownership has already led to a new appointment at the highest level, with Lorenzo Bertelli, the son of Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, taking on the role of executive chairman of Versace.
