Vivienne Westwood Debuts in the Middle East Fostering Cultural Fusion and Local Craftsmanship
The iconic Vivienne Westwood label is set to make a significant cultural and fashion statement by hosting its inaugural fashion show in the Middle East. This landmark event will unfold as part of Riyadh Fashion Week, with the highly anticipated debut scheduled for October 16th. The show will take place amidst the picturesque setting of a Palm Grove in Riyadh, offering a unique backdrop for the brand's first venture into the region.
Carlo D’Amario, CEO of Vivienne Westwood, elaborated on the brand's vision for this groundbreaking presentation. He revealed that the label has been diligently working on "a special collection of embroidered gowns," a testament to the seamless "union of the expertise of our couture team and the craftsmanship of local artisans." This collaborative approach is a deliberate effort to "promote local traditions through an international perspective," embodying the brand's belief that "fashion must go beyond aesthetics - it must be a connection between cultures." D’Amario emphasized the "Global-local" concept as a key principle, driving the brand's commitment to such special projects and international shows.
Central to this initiative are the exquisite embroidered capsule pieces, developed in an exclusive collaboration with 'Art of Heritage.' This esteemed cultural institution is dedicated to safeguarding Saudi Arabia’s rich legacy of craftsmanship. These unique collaborative pieces will be presented alongside Vivienne Westwood's main Spring/Summer 2026 collection, creating a harmonious blend of global fashion trends and deeply rooted local artistry.
Beyond the runway, Vivienne Westwood is also extending its commitment to fostering local talent. The label has invited approximately 100 students from various local fashion schools to attend the show, offering them a unique opportunity to witness this international event firsthand. Furthermore, a dedicated mentoring session will be hosted for these students prior to the show, providing invaluable insights and guidance from industry experts, thus nurturing the next generation of regional fashion designers.
This year marks the third edition of Riyadh Fashion Week, which has rapidly established itself as a prominent fixture in the regional fashion landscape. However, 2024 is particularly significant as it marks the first time the official calendar has been opened to international fashion houses. This strategic expansion by Riyadh Fashion Week is precisely what has facilitated the participation of prestigious labels like Vivienne Westwood, signaling a new era of global engagement and cultural exchange within the Middle Eastern fashion arena.
