Zebra Acquires Elo Touch Solutions to Expand Retail and Beyond
Zebra, a prominent US-based group renowned for its point-of-sale solutions and scanners, has officially announced its acquisition of Elo Touch Solutions. Elo, headquartered in California, is a recognized specialist in retail terminals. This strategic move, which sees Elo transitioning from its majority ownership by Crestview Partners since 2018, aims to significantly expand Zebra’s total addressable market to an impressive $8 billion. While the financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed, the deal provides the Illinois-based company with access to an advanced portfolio of terminals specifically designed to streamline checkout processes and enhance self-service capabilities within retail environments.
The synergy between Zebra and Elo is particularly compelling for businesses currently navigating or accelerating their digital transformation journeys. Bill Burns, CEO of Zebra Technologies, articulated the strategic vision, stating, "The combination of Zebra and Elo is particularly attractive to companies that are accelerating their digital transformation and automating their operations, in order to deliver in-person experiences that are as intelligent and connected as those in the digital world." This acquisition is poised to fortify Zebra's market position across key sectors, including retail, hospitality, quick-service restaurants (QSR), healthcare, and manufacturing, primarily due to the expansive and complementary nature of their combined solution portfolios.
Beyond the immediate retail benefits, Elo’s robust solutions boast versatility across a wide array of other industries. Zebra highlights that Elo's touch solutions are equally well-suited for deployment in critical environments such as hospitals, busy airports, luxury hotels, diverse production facilities, and even specialized packaging companies. This broad applicability underscores the potential for integrated solutions across a multitude of operational contexts. Furthermore, Elo Touch Solutions brings a valuable intellectual property portfolio to the table, holding approximately one hundred patents within its specialized field.
The integration of Elo into Zebra’s operations brings together two significant global presences. Zebra currently maintains a substantial workforce of 9,000 employees spread across 54 countries worldwide. Elo Touch Solutions, for its part, contributes a team of approximately 1,200 employees and a remarkable track record of success, having deployed an estimated 35 million touchscreens over the years in more than 80 countries globally. This combined operational scale and technological expertise position the merged entity to deliver even more comprehensive and innovative solutions to a diverse international client base.
