Zippy Kids Expands Across Africa with New Algerian Store

Portuguese childrenswear and babycare brand Zippy continues its international expansion with the opening of its fourth store in Algeria, located in the Bab Ezzouar shopping centre in Algiers. The new location, Algiers’ primary mall, has demonstrated a strong start, achieving “very positive sales results” within its first week of operation, signaling significant potential for the brand in this strategic market.

Zippy first entered the Algerian market in May 2020 and views this expansion as a key component of its broader growth strategy across the African continent. Beyond Algeria, Zippy already has a presence in Morocco, Angola, Mozambique, Mauritania, and Mauritius, demonstrating a growing footprint in the region. The company debuted in Morocco in 2025 and simultaneously expanded its network in Angola.

Looking ahead, Zippy has ambitious plans for continued international growth. The brand intends to build upon its success in established markets while simultaneously entering new territories. This year, Zippy is set to launch its collections in Serbia, Uzbekistan, and Kosovo, further diversifying its global reach.

Founded in 1996, Zippy currently boasts a network of approximately 70 retail locations spanning over 50 countries. The brand operates through a combination of franchising in over 20 markets and wholesale distribution in around 50 markets, showcasing a versatile business model.

In 2025, Zippy underwent a change in ownership, being acquired by a consortium led by Francisco Pimentel, CEO of MO, and Oxy Capital’s Mercúrio Fund, from its previous owner, Sonae. This acquisition is expected to further fuel the brand’s international growth initiatives and solidify its position in the global childrenswear market.
